A Construction Background
Unlike the majority of architects, the
partners each have extensive professional construction experience.
We have built projects of our own design. We have first hand experience
with the pricing, bidding and management process from the perspective
of architects, owners and general contractors. Our familiarity with
the construction process allows us to be efficient and effective
during the bidding process on larger projects. We are proud of our
ability to bring projects in on budget. Our firm has worked on projects
with negotiated bids, competitive bids, and projects with multiple
subcontracts, and we feel confident working with any of these contract
situations. Finally, our construction experience gives us an ability
to communicate and interact well with contractors and builders.
We strive to have the construction process be a cooperative team
endeavor rather than a confrontational or adversarial process. This
background is invaluable when it comes time to design solutions
that are easily buildable at an affordable price.
The partners both teach architecture and design/build at Yestermorrow
Design/Build School. We have, when requested, incorporated students
or a teaching experience into the design and construction of our projects.
Both partners have served on their respective town select boards.
Bast has additionally served on his planning commission, and is
past president of the Vermont League of Cities and Towns. Rood has
served on the Warren School Board, the Warren Education fund, and
is on the Board of Directors of the Yestermorrow Design/Build School.
The value of this public service to an architectural practice is
a thorough understanding of how communities work, and how to get
responsible, worthy projects done.
